Documentation platform with AI search, built for startups and AI agents
## Intro Mintlify is a documentation platform for software products. It publishes a docs site for your product or API and adds AI features on top, such as an AI assistant that answers questions from your docs and an MCP server so AI tools can read them. Its homepage names customers including Anthropic, Lovable, Replit, Perplexity and HubSpot. Mintlify describes its product as self-updating documentation for startups, enterprises and agents. That last word matters: more and more of your docs' readers are AI tools, and Mintlify is built to serve them as well as people. ## Key features - **Web editor.** Write and edit docs in a browser editor, available on every plan. The free Starter plan includes 5 editor seats, and paid plans have unlimited seats. - **AI assistant.** On Pro and Enterprise, readers can ask questions and get answers drawn from your docs. Each answer uses credits, and answers the assistant cannot give are free. - **Docs for agents.** An MCP server on every plan, plus an llms.txt file, lets AI coding tools and agents pull accurate information from your docs. - **Writing agent and automations.** Pro includes a writing agent and automations that update docs when your product changes, charged in credits only when an update is needed. ## Best for Mintlify suits startups with an API, SDK or developer product, and builders whose users rely on AI coding tools to integrate with them. It also works for teams who want docs that stay current without someone manually editing pages after every release. It is more than most no-code founders need for a simple help center, where a Notion page or a basic help desk will do. ## Pricing summary Starter is free with 5 editor seats and the MCP server. Pro is $450 a month billed annually, or $540 monthly, with 10,000 AI credits a month. Enterprise is custom. New accounts get a 14-day Pro trial with no card required. ## Quick verdict Mintlify makes good-looking, AI-ready docs with little effort, and the free plan is enough for many early products. The jump to Pro is steep at $450 a month, so stay on Starter until AI answers and analytics clearly pay for themselves. Keep an eye on credits once you upgrade: AI answers cost 25 credits each and docs automations 250 per update, with overages at $0.01 a credit. You can set a hard spending limit or switch overages off in the dashboard, which is worth doing on day one.
